Main Street

There's a lot of talk these days about Wall Street vs. Main Street. In fact I was just now watching CNN about how bad off we on Main Street are. I will wholeheartedly agree that the country is in a mess and hate that we got here and hope and pray that we can pull out. Soon.

BUT!

Things aren't really all THAT bad for me and hubby. Sure we cringed (a LOT) when gas prices went over the $4 mark. We just didn't drive as much until they started going down. He still had to drive to work of course but we cut back on "just because" drives, made plans to do our shopping in a more organized and efficient way.

We haven't resorted to turning in our change. We haven't been reduced to eating mac & cheese for dinner. Sure, we haven't rushed out to buy home theater seating, but that's something we don't want anyway.

We're fortunate that we live in an apartment and aren't faced with having our mortgage foreclosed. We're fortunate that (for now) hubby's job feels relatively safe. We can afford to spend a little on a grandson's school fund raiser without calculating if we can still meet our bills. (I'm doing some mental "knocking wood" while writing this.)

The CNN report I was just watching said that even people with an 800 credit score rating might not qualify for a car loan. If you read my Tuesday Heads Or Tails post you'll know we just got a 2007 Ford Escape. On credit. Our credit is not all that good either. Hubby had a bankruptcy a while back that may or may not still be on his record. We weren't sure the loan would go through in part because of that but also becuase of the economy. But it did.

Of course I'm worried and concerned over what is going on in our country and how it's affecting all of us to varying degrees. These are serious times to be sure. A lot of people are hurting right now.

I just wanted to say that for us anyway.. we're still holding our own.

How badly are you affected by this financial crisis.. if at all?

I'm not sure how much of it is the economy & how much is recent illness & resulting issues with my pay, not to mention Poor Hubby switching to a job that pays less (again), but we're having to time things just right to make sure our bills get paid. I'm always pretty thrifty, but things are just a smidge scary right now.

I am still doing ok for now. I keep waiting for the financial crisis to kick me all the way down.
