Snowsuits

We have a beautiful snowfall here today and seeing the children out in their snowsuits reminds me of a time when I was (unknowingly) a bad, bad mom..

Most mothers, myself included, will try to avoid things that hurt their children or embarrass them. I however was brought up in sunny Florida and did not know the ways of cold Michigan.. at least as far as the school dress code in Winter.

Like all good Michigan mothers I dressed my children in snowsuits on cold, wintry days and sent them on their way to elementary school. I did not know for middle school students that was not a cool thing to do anymore.

Sure enough Winter snow came and I insisted the oldest (the guinea pig child) wear a snowsuit. To his bus stop. To middle school. He tried to argue this point, but mom knows best, right?

Wrong. He told me after school that afternoon that he was ridiculed and maybe even shoved around a little. I never made him wear a snowsuit to school again. A hat and gloves which he probably took off as soon as he rounded the corner at the end of the block.. but never a snowsuit.

Geesh - I would have done the same thing as you! Guess that's why I'm not a mom!
