Heads Or Tails #73 - Bottle

You can play this at Heads Or Tails!

**************

My first marriage lasted 25 years. That includes the last year that the divorce was being finalized. The years were not all good, but they weren't entirely bad either. When you're with someone that long there are bound to be some special shared moments like the births of your children.

I used to try new things often that I hoped would make my marriage work. Incorrectly thinking that I alone could fix what was wrong. As they say though it takes two to tango. And I wasn't even that good of a dancer.

Here's what I tried for one of our last anniversaries..

While he was at work I made a two layer cake and decorated it with hearts cut from heavy red paper. I cut a small hole in the cake's center and put in a vase containing a single rose.

I took the petals off some other roses I'd bought and put them in (I think) a bowl. I cooked dinner and got my kids to be accomplices.

When he got home we sat down to a candlelit dinner served by my kids who were acting as waiters.

Afterward I asked him to follow me to the living room, where I put in a CD to play what had been "our"song. My kids were supposed to toss the rose petals under our feet as we danced. We did dance but my kids were doing something more like pegging the rose petals at our heads. Silly kids. (Laugh.)

This was the song we danced to..

Of course this last attempt by me wasn't enough. I don't think a cattle prod from a cattle supplies store would have helped at that point.

Well, the story is funny about the rose petals and dancing to the song.

I could not help but laugh.
I have a totally different take on it. Hope you can stop by.

Wow. That's a lot more effort than I put out on anniversaries. Then again, I expect to be pampered 'cause it's also my birthday. Sounds like an incredible gesture.

You are romantic, my ex-husband would have loved that. I am not romantic at all I am afraid, I get kind of embarrassed but I think it is great if you can do it.

You're right, one person can't make the marriage work. If the other person isn't interested there's nothing you can do. So sad for you. :-( Divorce is just something that makes me sad, though.

I've always LOVED Jim Crochet!! Time In A Bottle being just one of the songs I love by him.

My first marriage only lasted 3 years, 3 months and 5 days... then I left, couldn't take it any more. 1 year to the day later I sat in a lawyers office and filed for divorce, which took another 8 months or so. I got my divorce on the grounds of Mental Cruelty... not easy to get one on those grounds, yet I had no problems at all. No kids was a good thing really. I forgave him many years ago, and he passed away nearly 10 years ago now at age 44. When I think of him, I send him love.

My second marriage was common-law rather than a real, legal one. It lasted 22 months before I went into hiding to get away from him.

Any questions as to why 20 years later I'm still single? I thought not. LOL!

A great gesture. Such a shame it sometimes doesn't work.

The most romantic thing I've done for my husband lately is let him sleep in. Okay, I have to do something better...any ideas?

It's nice to know you're a sap like me ;-P

Seriously though - that was a very sweet and romantic thing you did. But, I had to crack up about the kids.

Always was partial to Jim Croce myself. (Just not 'Bad Bad Leroy Brown' -- not quite as bad a Chicago song as 'The Night Chicago Died' but close....)

My kids throw stuff at me all the time. Ever since George Bush's press conference in Iraq, it's been shoes....

I think that is awesome! You put more work then I ever do...my husband would be flabergasted! Maybe i should try it hey?? LOL!

It shouldn't be too hard with baby to wean jeremy off the bottle. She is mostly nursed, and she is extremly easy going, so she is mostly smiles. Jeremy may have some issues though...he loves his baba.....

If romance was all it took...

I ought to think of something romantic to do for my husband one of these days. He'd appreciate it.

What a great romantic gesture ... even with the pelted rose petals ... at least they didn't throw "bottles" (ha ha) Sorry it didn't work out - but maybe you're in a better place now because it didn't ... glad you enjoyed my HOT for today -

That is a wonderful story. It is nice to hear someone who has been through a divorce admit that there were good times somewhere along the way.

And I've always liked that song. Now it will be in my head the rest of the evening. :)
