Cookie Sheets

My psychiatrist has kept me on the same meds for the last couple visits. He upped my Xanax from 'as needed' to three times a day though. I think I threw him for a loop last visit when I told him I'm afraid of cookie sheets.

Yes. Cookie sheets.

He mentioned starting me on something for OCD next visit. Good thing we don't need prescription assistance! Anyway, I kind of thought OCD treatment was behavior modification stuff. Face your fears and all that? Oh nooooo.. it's an evil cookie sheet! Maybe he'd want me to start slow with a small one.. like from an Easy Bake Oven or something. I'm rambling.

I'm not actually afraid of them. I can cook on them. For which my son is thankful. He asked for peanut butter cookies as his present this year. It's after they've been used. Sitting there next to the sink needing to be washed. That's where I get stuck. I cannot wash them. I cannot wash any other dishes if they're sitting there either.

I have other weird things about me but cookie sheets are probably the weirdest. I've thought of them as being.. quirks. Unique little things that make me be.. well.. me. Oh that Barb. Look at her lining things up. That kind of thing.

I guess a loose interpretation of OCD might be anything you do that prevents you from carrying out a 'normal' lifestyle? I'm not really sure. Anyone want to help me on this? The definition I mean.

Of course if anyone wants to come help me wash the cookie sheets, that would be nice, too.

I made a batch of peanut butter sandwhich cookies last week-they have a chocolate/peanut butter filling and they are REALLY delish!

I'll wash your cookie sheets... as long as you don't make fun of me for checking my alarm clock about 14 times before going to bed; or this... I get to work, put my keys in my purse and lock my vehicle - then I re-open my purse to be sure I put my keys in there - then I lock the vehicle again (it's already locked) - then I double check that I turned the lights off - then after closing the door, I peek inside to make sure my lights are off and I don't see my keys in there.
Yeah... paranoid is what you call my issues, I guess.

Have you tried parchment paper? I LOVE it for baking cookies on. Just lay it on the cookie sheet and bake - i think the cookies come out better too... plus EASY clean up - just toss the sheet after using. Technically I guess u should wash it - but I don't, cause I'm gonna just do the same thing next time I use it.

Also I use tinfoil on the cookie sheet when I do things like tater-tots and pizza rolls (the only thing I have really got a handle on when using the oven, hehe) ... and then u guessed it - I just toss the sheet of tinfoil out ;-)

If I could, I would come wash your cookie sheets for you. I don't know how serious you were in this post, but I do know a bit about some of your difficulties, and I worry about you. Glad you're continuing to see the psychiatrist. And what a great mom to make your son peanut butter cookies.

Sorry I haven't visited lately. Moving out and all. Do you read my journal? I had to set it to private, and I thought I sent you an invite to read it, but if I forgot, please let me know. Ha. For me to "forget!" Love ya!

Okay! I finally made my way down the reader and have now arrived at your post! Phew! It's been a long haul to get here and I'm not even half-way through the list. But, I think this does pretty well sum up -or at least is a reasonable description of OCD. We all have our little quirks from childhood and on up through the years. Some of them stay but usually a lighter version, some remain, some grow and become obstacles in our lives then too! What is it -or don't you know -about the cookie sheets that causes you this uncontrolled fear? As OCD as you are about cleaning, and places for everything, everything in its place, makes this a real oddball in the mix I would think, doesn't it?
Hope all is going well otherwise with the holiday and the junk side it sometimes brings to many of us.
Peace and God Jul to you and Mister Skittles aka Mike!

I'll come wash your cookie sheets if you make me some cookies. Got any snickerdoodles? I like Erika Jean's suggestion... of parchment paper. I use that myself. But I'm thinking there is something deeper than just that.
