A Good Time To Start

I was not close to my sister when I was growing up. My brother either. Our family was so very dysfunctional that we were all off in our own little life rafts trying to survive in any way we could. Maybe it would have been easier for us if we'd bonded together for comfort. I don't know.

We didn't get closer as we grew up and escaped left home. I moved to Michigan as you may know. My sister moved to South Carolina and my brother to Texas. The only time we 'talk' since those days is to exchange Christmas cards. Our mother keeps us up-to-date on everything else of importance and has done so over all the years.

Imagine my surprise when I got a request two days ago from my sister on Facebook to 'friend' her. I didn't really realize until I got that request how much I still love her. How much I wish things could have been different and that we could have been friends back then and remained friends through the years.

Maybe now is a good time to start.

In the meantime I almost feel like a small celebration. I wish I could eat cake because I would surely make one and add some sort of custom cake toppers for decoration.

Note: I normally ride my exercise bike 25 minutes a day but will add an extra minute for each comment I get on this post. One comment per person, please =)

That's really great! I know from experience that it IS possible to discover close family relationships later in life... even when you thought it would never happen.

Psssst... miss ya!

My mother isn't close to her siblings either...probably for similar reasons...so I was very surprised when one of my aunt's daughters sent me a friend request.

if your sister is reaching out if you are comfortable you might want to respond to her. don't eat cake bike on.
