The Spider Story

Last week I pulled back the covers on my bed ready for a good night's sleep.. when I saw something move.. in my bed! I swatted at it with my hand pushing it off the side of the bed all in one quick motion and started yelling BUG! BUG! BUG! (My normal thing to do in similar circumstances.)

Mr. Skittles came running asking where? I pointed under the bed, the direction I had sent it. He got a flashlight and got on his hands and knees to look. He said it was a little spider and got a tissue from the box I keep by my side of the bed and he smooshed it. He showed me the dead body.

Now.. what he showed me was a little bitty spider and I was SURE what I had seen (and swatted at) was the size of a tarantula so I asked him to keep looking. He humored me and after a suitable amount of time told me there was nothing else down there. He stood up and thought all was well and bedtime could proceed as normal.

Wrong. There was no way I was going to climb under covers where a spider had just been. Just no way at all. I came to my computer room thinking I'd stay up and change all the bedding in the morning. I fell asleep in my desk chair around 3am and was understandably a bit stiff and sore when I woke up around 5am. Ok.. a bit cranky too like I can be if deprived of a good night's sleep.

The bedding didn't get changed that day but even though I still wouldn't get in between the sheets that next night, I did find a compromise. I got out a quilt and we slept under that a few nights.. on top of the bedspread.. until I could get the bedding changed.

What would YOU do? Would you have forgotten the spider and gone to bed as usual? Or would you have been a sissy baby like me?

We have black sheets so until I got the bed changed the couch would have been where I would sleep! lol Of curse I'm such a HUGE chicken of spiders I would have made Sherm rip the bed apart right then and there! I don't think I could have even touched it.

Well, I already told ya on the phone, that we've got a huge epidemic of wolf spiders right now (those things get HUGE). There are SO many of them, I HAVE to forget about them, or I'd refuse to even stay in my house!

I'd probably have given the bedding a darned good brush over to try to flush out any family stragglers but then, most likely would have snuggled in under the covers anyway. But maybe would have slept with one eye open, ya think?

So are you saying that if I wouldn't have just gone to bed as usual then I am a sissy too? I had something like that happen with a mosquito... buzzed my ear while I was in bed. I couldn't kill it so I went out and slept on the couch... with the sheets over my head...

Yea, sissy down here in FL...
Sorry I've been so missing. New job is taking all my free time.

Hubs and I would have gone on a BIG spider hunt, armed with torches and a spider catching contraption (I'd rather not kill it and we have a cool contraption to catch spiders), and if we really couldn't find it I'd have gone to bed and hope for the best. Cause that is how incredibly brave I am ;-)
