We're Home

We're home from our short road trip adventure! We left town around 6pm Wednesday night and got home early this morning around 2am.

We weren't sure where we wanted to go so a large part of the trip was driving around trying to figure it out. It might best be explained by asking you if you remember this from your Sunday comics..

We thought we might like to go back and revisit the Chesapeake Bay area and headed east. About halfway across Ohio, we changed our minds and turned south towards West Virginia, which is where hubby was born.

I got out the map to see what else was going to be nearby and saw Harper's Ferry, site of the pre-Civil War disturbance, on the east side of West Virginia. Hubby set the GPS to lead the way and he settled back to get some sleep while I drove on through the night. (The GPS took us on an interesting route.. resembling the above cartoon. We went in and out of West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland.)

Around 3-4am I was almost to Harper's Ferry and since it was so early and knew nothing would be open yet, I woke hubby and we pulled out the map again. We set our new destination as Roanoke, West Virginia.. 400 miles more to go. I laid back for some sleep as hubby took over the driving.

I woke up as we got to Roanoke and we realized that it wasn't THE Roanoke from history. (Ooops!) We turned back around to go to Harper's Ferry. We arrived there around 2pm.

We didn't stay long because it was windy, rainy and cold. We've put it on our list of places to visit again. (That is a very long list!)

There are more things we did and saw, but I'll save those for another day and another post. I have to admit that being in the car for around 32 hours made us really appreciate our nice warm water bed. If only each side of the car came equipped with a massage chair!

I would love to just drive pretty aimlessly. You must discover some amazing things!

WoooHooo you're home. It's a good thing, because I think you need to keep me from getting myself in any more trouble.
