The Road Trip

We left here Friday around 5pm headed south. (We have good car insurance so we didn't need to look for car insurance companies first.) We knew there was a ghost town and a fort close to each other in Ohio and thought we might check them out.

The ghost town was gone (imagine that!) and the fort was getting ready to close when we got there, so we just kept driving on down into Kentucky. We had no firm idea of where we might end up, but that's how most of our vacation and/or road trips go. I do know that we decided to get some rest around midnight Friday night and got a room in Georgetown, Kentucky. If anyone is familiar with Kentucky, this was near Lexington.

Saturday morning we thought about driving farther south so we could get into the beauty of the Smokey Mountains, but we turned west instead toward Louisville, then on into Missouri. Our new plan was to head north of St. Louis and stay overnight in Hannibal. Hannibal is the boyhood home of Mark Twain and we loved it when we were there year before last.

Unfortunately all the motels anywhere close were filled due to it being Memorial Day weekend, so we had to keep driving. We stopped for the night Saturday around 9pm near Iowa City, Iowa.

We knew we had to be home yesterday as we hadn't brought the guinea pig with us (this time) and were concerned about her running out of food and water, so we drove home.. taking us about ten hours of road time.

We didn't stop to see anything. We didn't stop to do anything. But sometimes those are the best trips. Just getting away and enjoying what we see out the windows of the car.

I think it's so cool how you guys just decide to go without knowing where you'll end up. Too bad you didn't see any moose though ;-)
