The Song Remembers When

I've had a movie theme song stuck in my head. Maybe because my daughter's birthday is coming up fast. Maybe because I'm just feeling old lately anyway.

Way before I needed eye wrinkle cream and before I grunted getting off the couch or needed trifocal lenses in my eyeglasses I had dreams of what I would do with my life. The things I would accomplish. Going to college was always on that list. So was having a job/career. Some other things too trivial to mention were on the list, too. As I got older and more.. mental.. they got crossed off.

I feel I did a decent job of raising my kids. I'm married to a man I love with all my heart and who loves me just as much. (Second time was the charm for me.) And yet... My life feels so empty at times and I suppose that's why the theme song to Shirley Valentine has been stuck in my head.

It's a wonderful movie and I recommend it to anyone who feels like life is passing them by while they are stuck in a rut.. or wishing they'd done more with their life. (Netflix has it.) I first saw it years and years ago. I've watched it many times since and it is always just as good.

In the meantime, listen to this theme song. It's not very long. See if you know what it means to be 'the girl who used to be you'.

Don't know this song - I'll have to listen to it when I get home.
